A timeless love story on pointe!

Caroline Ohrt, Executive Producer of Dance at the NAC in a conversation with Western Australian Ballet choreographer Jayne Smeulders who created the enchanting Cinderella ballet performed by Les Grands Ballets Canadiens and coming to the National Arts Centre this November. Originally created in 2011, this production has been remounted for the Montreal ballet company at the invitation of its Artistic Director Ivan Cavallari. In this discussion, Caroline and Jayne delve into the immense effort that went into this spectacular and magical production.

While providing sneak peeks of the ballet, they talk about the pivotal roles played by the delightful stepsisters, who bring creative humour and mischief to the story, and the exquisite costumes of extraordinary quality by Montreal's Marie-Chantale Vaillancourt. Jayne also describes her relationship with Les Grands’ Principal Conductor, Dina Gilbert, and how the music score aligns perfectly with the plot of this timeless tale.

As Smeulders aptly puts it, “Cinderella is a story of love and hope, good triumphing over evil. It’s an endless tale, a timeless tale.”

This is an opportunity you won't want to miss. Join us from November 9th to 11th at the National Arts Centre for a truly unforgettable experience.
