Creative Producer Fellowship

This opportunity is ideal for you because:

• You are dedicated to helping artists bring their work to audiences. We understand that producing looks very different in different disciplines and communities, and we’re excited to think expansively about who is a producer. We are interested in applications from people working in any field in the performing arts who are helping other artists get their work in front of audiences, whether or not your title is “producer.” We are also open to different relationships to producing, which may include independent producers, people working at not-for-profit or commercial arts organizations, or something else entirely.
• You have a project you are interested in producing over the next two years.
• You are passionate about producing’s change-making capacities.

Each Fellow’s experience will be co-created in consideration of their specific goals, aspirations, and availability. Each fellowship will include :

1. Participation in our Producing Fundamentals program, to build strong, strategic foundational knowledge. Additional training may be provided based on the Fellow’s needs. Approx. 12 hours online per year.
2. Two placements curated to expand creative leadership and producing capacities. Placements may include shows supported by the National Creation Fund and productions at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Ontario. Minimum per placement: approx 10 hours x 3 weeks remote + 2 weeks in-person. Maximum per placement: 
20 hours x 12 weeks remote + 4 weeks in person.
3. Masterclasses with leading producers, artistic leaders, and people who produce outside of the arts. Four to six days online and/or in-person.
4. Access to a coach who will support the entire fellowship. Bi-weekly meetings x 1 hour online or in-person.
5. Industry gatherings and network building. 4 to 6 weeks total in-person attending different festivals/conferences.
6. Peer exchange. Bi-weekly meetings x 1 hour online and/or in-person.
7. Producing your own project. This can include work that you’re already scheduled to produce or new projects that you would like to initiate. Approx 5-15 hours/week.

This is a part-time program with full-time moments. We anticipate that our Fellows will have other work and life commitments in place, and we will work with each Fellow to build a program that considers those needs.

This program is open to English and French speakers. Producing Fundamentals, the placements, the masterclasses and the coaching are available in both French and English. We will attend both English-speaking and French-speaking festivals. Bilingualism is an asset, but not required.

• You are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Canada, aged 18+;
• You have a minimum of three cumulative years of making creative work happen;
• At this time, the Fellowship is not for people who are exclusively interested in self-producing performances they are also creating for which they are also the lead artist/creator.

• What kind of change do you want to create in the world? (200-250 words)
• What kind of performance do you like and why? (200-250 words)
• What is your dream project to produce? Who would make it with you? Who would it be for? What impact do you hope it would make?  (200-250 words)
• Is there a dream mentor or teacher that you would like to work with? (100 words)
• Describe your current employment and any future employment you are aware of over the next two years.

Please include a letter of reference from an artist you’ve worked with.
