Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto

Internationally acclaimed violinist Viviane Hagner will dazzle audiences with her performance of Mendelssohn’s perfectly crafted concerto, while conductor Pinchas Zukerman explores the moods and lyricism of Sibelius's second symphony.

Jean-Philippe Collard in Recital
Great Performers Series
Internationally renowned French pianist Jean-Philippe Collard replaces Louis Lortie, who had to cancel because of injury. Mr. Collard performs six Préludes by Debussy, replete with rich, unusual and daring harmonies; Chopin’s Scherzo No. 3 in C Sharp Minor, Op. 39, Nocturne in C minor, Op. 48, No. 1, and Ballade No. 4 in F minor, Op. 52; and Liszt’s Piano Sonata in B minor, arguably his finest composition and one of the greatest piano sonatas ever written.

Parker Performs Grieg
Ovation Series
Jon Kimura Parker dazzles with Grieg’s powerful and heartbreakingly beautiful Piano Concerto. The program also includes Stravinsky’s Concerto for Chamber Orchestra “Dumbarton Oaks” and Dvo?ák’s Symphony No. 6. Jakub Hr?ša conducts.

Zukerman, Znaider and Mozart
Bostonian Bravo Series
Nikolaj Znaider performs Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, one of the most beloved and technically difficult violin concertos, and joins Maestro Zukerman (viola) for Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante. The program includes Jacques Hétu’s Symphony No. 3.

Alice Sara Ott in Recital
Great Performers Series
Rising star Alice Sara Ott replaces Yundi in her Canadian debut. She will perform Mozart’s Variations on the Minuet of J.P. Duport in D major; Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 3 in C major, Op. 2, No. 3; Chopin’s Waltz in A-flat Major, Op. 34, No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 and Waltz in C-sharp minor, Op. 64, No. 1 and No. 2; and Transcendental Etudes No. 11 and No. 12 and Rigoletto-Paraphrase by Liszt.

Beirut, 2006, not very long after the Israeli attack. A Lebanese director presents to a political censor movie images that she shot, freely inspired by Ettore Scola’s A Special Day. A comic and critical reflection of contemporary Lebanon.
