NAC Foundation Raises More Than $1 million to Support the NAC’s New Indigenous Theatre Department

The National Arts Centre Foundation is delighted to announce that it has raised more than $ 1 million (net) for the NAC’s new Indigenous Theatre Department. The money was raised through a tribute dinner that was held in honour of Peter Herrndorf, who is stepping down as President and CEO on June 2, 2018 after more than 18-years of extraordinary leadership.

The evening, which was emceed by the esteemed Canadian actor Colm Feore, featured tributes from National Chief Perry Bellegarde of the Assembly of First Nations, Canadian Heritage Minister Mélanie Joly, NAC Indigenous Theatre Artistic Director Kevin Loring, NAC Board Chair Adrian Burns, the first Chair of the NAC Foundation, Guy Pratte, and Peter Herrndorf.

It also featured surprise performances from jazz singer Molly Johnson, singer-songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk and classical pianist Angela Hewitt.

“I am very grateful to the donors who have given their generous support to the NAC’s new Indigenous Theatre Department,” Kevin Loring said. “We look forward to elevating the voices of  Indigenous artists from across the land, and giving them the resources they need to share their stories with Canadians.”

“Leading the National Arts Centre has been the greatest honour and privilege of my life,” Peter Herrndorf said. “I am thrilled and moved that this dinner has helped raise much needed funds for the NAC’s new Indigenous Theatre Department.”

“We are very grateful to our donors who have recognized the tremendous value of supporting NAC Indigenous Theatre,” said Jayne Watson, CEO of the National Arts Centre Foundation. “I can’t think of a better way to honour the visionary leadership of Peter Herrndorf than by lending such generous support to one of his most important initiatives.”
