L-E-V / OCD Love

NAC Dance is proud to welcome back L-E-V Dance Company with their new creation OCD Love. For this highly original piece, L-E-V’s co-artistic directors, Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar, teamed up with techno trailblazer DJ Ori Lichtik to create a raw, visceral new work inspired by slam poet Neil Hilborn’s sensational text “OCD. Harking back to the 90s club scene with its pulsing, rhythmic groove and striking contrasts in light and shadow, this hypnotic, obsessive compulsive piece looks at love and the emotional black holes that lurk in its shadows. Six superb dancers flawlessly execute a unique lexicon of complex, charged, riveting movement.

“The company’s first appearance at the NAC in 2014 with their work House was a huge success, introducing their heart stopping synthesis of movement/music/design. With OCD Love, Sharon credits spoken word artist Neil Hilborn’s poem as her inspiration, yet she has stamped her idiosyncratic signature on the pulsing beauty of these magnificent dancers. A rich and intense experience; unique in its power.” - Cathy Levy, Executive Producer, NAC Dance.

…the aesthetic – a complex mixture of languorous stretches, balletic footwork athletic balances, grotesque gesticulations, staccato jumps and grimaces – is rivetingly decadent.

Since 2006, collaborators Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar have been a significant voice in the artistic community, creating a continuous stream of critically acclaimed original works for Batsheva and other eminent dance companies around the world. L-E-V is the culmination of years of momentum, choreographed by Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar, accompanied by the endlessly original music of Ori Lichtik, delivered by fiercely talented dancers that move with expressive precision.

L-E-V feeds off of emerging technologies and integrates them effortlessly and unobtrusively into cross‑disciplinary stagings that could be equally at home at a techno‑club or opera house. L-E-V is the confluence of movement, music, lighting, fashion, art and technology – each uniquely expressive while emotionally entwined.

L-E-V embodies a pledge to move and engage a diverse spectrum of new audiences and collaborators.

Sharon Eyal was born in Jerusalem. She danced with the Batsheva Dance Company between 1990 and 2008 and started choreographing within the framework of the company’s Batsheva Dancers Create project. Eyal served as associate Artistic Director for Batsheva between 2003 and 2004, and as a House Choreographer for the company between 2005 and 2012. In 2009, Eyal began creating pieces for other dance companies around the world: Killer Pig (2009) and Corps de Walk (2011) for Carte Blanche Dance of Norway; Too Beaucoup (2011) for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago; and Plafona (2012) for Tanzcompagnie Oldenburg, Germany. In 2013, Eyal launched L-E-V with her longtime collaborator Gai Behar.

Gai Behar was a notorious mover and shaker of Tel Aviv’s live music, art and nightlife scenes from 1999 till 2005. He joined Sharon in co-creating Bertolini in 2006 and has collaborated along with  Ori Lichtik on the creation of Sharon Eyal’s choreographic works ever since.
