NAC Congratulates Adrian Burns on Her Appointment to the Order of Ottawa

The National Arts Centre (NAC) today congratulated Adrian Burns, the Chair of the NAC’s Board of Trustees, on her appointment to the Order of Ottawa.

The Order of Ottawa celebrates outstanding citizens in our community. The prestigious civic award recognizes exceptional citizen contributions in many areas of city life including arts and culture, business, philanthropy, health care, education, public service, labour, communications and media, science, and sports.

Adrian Burns has served on the Board of the National Arts Centre since 2002 and has made a significant contribution to the life of the arts not only in Ottawa but across the country. In addition to her appointment as Chair of the NAC’s Board of Trustees in 2014, Ms. Burns has served as the Chair of the Human Resources Committee, and as the NAC Board’s Vice-Chair. She is a passionate champion of the arts and a frequent visitor to performances in Music, Dance, and Theatre.

Ms. Burns is also at the centre of many exciting initiatives to mark Canada’s sesquicentennial, including serving as the Chair the National Capital Commission’s design committee to choose a monument to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Stanley Cup. The monument will be unveiled in December 2017 directly across the street from the NAC on Sparks Street.

“Adrian Burns is a city builder…and an NAC builder,” said Peter Herrndorf, President and CEO of the NAC. “We are all so proud of her success.”

Adrian Burns has extensive professional experience after working for many years in Canadian broadcasting and the arts, business, corporate and public governance, and community service. She currently sits on the Board of Shaw Communications as a Director and as a member of the Executive Committee. She has won many awards and honours for her professional and community service including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012. She also serves as an Honorary Captain of the Royal Canadian Navy.
