National Arts Centre Issues Request for Proposals for Construction Manager for Historic Redevelopment
OTTAWA (Canada) – The National Arts Centre (NAC) has initiated a public call for Expressions of Interest for Construction Management Services for the redevelopment of the national performing arts centre to mark the 150th anniversary of Canada in 2017. This call for Expressions of Interest is the first of a two step process. The NAC intends to invite up to four (4) firms, who obtain the highest scores in the EOI process, to respond to a Request for Proposals as a second step.
The project with an estimated $80 million construction cost, slated to open on Canada Day in 2017, will be funded by the Federal Government as part of an infrastructure programme announced last November.
Situated in the heart of the nation’s capital, the renewed NAC, designed by Toronto’s Diamond and Schmitt Architects, will include improved performance spaces, public areas for education and events, full accessibility for people with mobility challenges, and a magnificent glass atrium and entrance. The project team also includes Crossey Engineering Ltd. for Mechanical and Electrical, and Fast + Epp for Structural.
The overarching vision of the project is to transform the NAC into a world-class facility that is welcoming and inviting, and that proudly symbolizes the excellence of the performing arts in Canada. The NAC aims to welcome visitors through its renewed entrance by 2017, and to complete most of the project by the end of that year.
The call for Expressions of Interest will be advertised nationally through MERX and the Ottawa Construction Association.
Instructions are included in the EOI document posted on MERX (http://www.merx.com) and the Ottawa Construction Association (http://www.oca.ca).
