Val Caniparoli, an American choreographer known for his captivating work with the San Francisco Ballet, was inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic horror novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, a story that has fascinated him since childhood. The respectable Dr. Jekyll, haunted by his split personality, works in his lab to try to separate his good side from his evil one. Will his hidden impulses, brought to life by his evil twin, the monstrous Mr. Hyde, gain the upper hand?

From the foggy streets of London to the horrors of an insane asylum and the elegance of high society, the ballet grapples with themes of duality, temptation and the endless struggle between good and evil. The Royal Winnipeg Ballet puts the dancers’ dramatic intensity and impeccable technique centre stage as they passionately bring the two contradictory faces of Jekyll to life. With the spellbinding music of Polish composers including Chopin, Penderecki, Górecki, Kilar and Wieniawski, you’re sure to get goosebumps!

Due to its mature content, Jekyll & Hyde  is rated PG13. Parental discretion is advised. Jekyll & Hyde  includes adult themes presented within the historical context of when the novella was written (1886).

Performance is approximately 2 hours and 25 minutes including intermission
