The Iliad

One of the oldest existing works of Western literature, the Iliad tells the story of a hero’s anger as Greeks and Trojans battle on the plains of Troy. It is a story that has captured the hearts of audiences for almost three thousand years; a story that stands as one of the oldest literary depictions of the terrible cost of war. Ottawa StoryTellers and two women productions evoke the events of The Iliad in all their complexity in a twelve-hour epic telling of the tale.

Full day, 10am-11pm, $60: The wrath of Achilles is Homer’s theme – that fateful wrath the poet tells us is the cause of such Greek suffering, so many warriors left as carrion for the birds and dogs of war. In that wrath, Achilles has withdrawn from all fighting. Is there nothing that will cause him to return? Join us for the full sweep of the action through the terrible price the hero must pay for his intransigence to the epic’s brilliant and compelling close. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

Half day, 4:30pm-11pm, $40: For those who cannot be with us for the full day, we offer the chance to enter at one of the story’s turning points – that time of reconciliation which ensures Achilles’s re-engagement with the Greeks’ continued efforts.
