Mamselle Ruiz is an singer-songwriter from Mexico. She is currently based in Montreal. As a five year old, Mamselle sang as a soloist with church choirs. She studied opera techniques and singing for three years, then specialized in jazz for two years. Mamselle's live performances have been awarded several prizes including the Montreal festival Vue sur la Releve, the well known Residence of Place des Arts of Montreal as well as Rendez-vous de la musique Vision Diversite. Recognition of her talent has led to invitations to sing at renowned festivals throughout Mexico and Canada. During the summer of 2010 she performed 55 shows in Quebec. This experience has given her a deep appreciation of the cultures of North America and inspired the surprising north-south blend we can appreciate in her album Maíz.

Always on the lookout for new trends, Mamselle invites listeners to a fusion of styles combining latino-jazz, as well as trova cubana and Mexican traditional folklore. Maíz is a blazing fusion of atmospheres and sounds from the South and the North. Maìz shows as well a mixing of languages. Spanish, English and French languages meet and come close in harmony.
