Seminal French choreographer Maguy Marin’s Salves was acclaimed as a masterpiece after its premiere in 2010. This haunting work, a potent mix of dance and theatre, brings the power of resistance to the stage and features a soundscape by Denis Mariotte, seven dancers and four vintage tape recorders. Salves is “a work of calculated chaos, a manifesto, a hail of gunfire in which images shatter and fury overcomes despair.” Like a painting, an epic poem, Salves is a salvo of images, flashes from the darkness “like a series of uppercuts which raise the spectre of war and hatred, and show us the folly and absurdity of the world.”
