MIREILLE MOQUIN

Mireille Moquin is no stranger to western Canada’s francophone arts scene. A fifth-generation-born Franco-Albertan from Edmonton, she has been a working musician, singer-songwriter and actress since 2004, making her way across the country doing what she loves.

Having played piano since the age of five, she first took to the stage as a singer in the 2005 provincial music competition Gala albertain de la chanson, where her success brought her to the inter-provincial music competition Chant’Ouest, which in turn led her to a global forum at the Festival International de la chanson de Granby in Quebec in 2005 and again in 2010. 

In early 2006, Mireille joined Robert Walsh, Jason Kodie and Joël Lavoie to represent the francophone community through song at the Smithsonian Folklife festival in Washington D.C. Allez Ouest was formed and after great success as a quartet, the group continued their musical exploration and released their first full-length album Hybride in November of 2008—nominated for a Western Canadian Music Award for Francophone album of the year. The fan base of Allez Ouest continues to expand via performances across the country, with plans to cultivate a following in Europe. 

In the summer of 2008, Mireille partnered with Manitoba artist and Juno-nominated producer Benoit Morier to form the country duo Ben&Mimi. The duo toured western Canada and took Montreal by storm, resulting in an elevated profile in a short period of time. The project ended in the summer of 2009. 

On a theatrical note, Mireille has worked with Théâtre La Seizième (Vancouver), L’UniThéâtre (Edmonton), La Troupe du Jour (Saskatoon) and through these companies has performed on stages in Montreal, Ottawa and New-Brunswick. 

Capitalizing on her experience, Mireille released her debut solo EP in May, 2010. Her complete solo album Aurevoir Princesse was released in Edmonton on September 30th, 2011 and is nominated for Francophone album of the year at the 2012 Western Canadian Music Awards.
