Richard Bona is a Grammy-winning musician celebrated for his exceptional mastery of the bass guitar, as well as his talents as a composer and multi-instrumentalist. Originating from Africa, Bona's music is deeply rooted in the continent's traditions and culture, while also addressing significant social issues. His distinctive sound and vocal abilities have made him a leading figure in world, jazz, and Afropop music.
Bona has collaborated with industry legends such as Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones, Sting, and Stevie Wonder, covering a broad spectrum of genres, from jazz and pop to Brazilian songbook, Flamenco, and Caribbean music. In addition to performing and recording, he has taught Jazz Improvisation at NYU and mentors young musicians globally.
A TED speaker and advocate for ethical music business practices, Bona is committed to advancing the industry. His Signature Series collaboration with MARKBASS highlights his innovative approach to bass amp and guitar design. Currently, Bona is exploring new musical directions in Afrobeats, Afropop, Latin, and Flamenco, while continuing to tour internationally.
