Since its debut in 2017, the Kjetil Mulelid Trio has distinguished itself as one of Norway’s leading piano trios with playing the world’s nooks and crannies, and with two acclaimed follow-up albums in 2019 and 2022. The albums have made a strong impression and been praised by media from around the world. Jazz Journal gave their last two albums 5/5 and stated “the most captivating music we’ve heard in a long time”, The Wire thought the music was “magical”, Jazzwise thought it was “Impressive” and Written in Music bursted out “one hell of a piano trio!”

The three members are without a doubt some of the most interesting Norwegian jazz musicians. Rune Nergaard on double bass and Andreas Winther on drums, have both made a strong mark with bands such as Morgonrøde, Bushman's Revenge, Fra det onde and Selma French. Pianist and composer Kjetil Mulelid is known from e.g. bands such as Wako, and he has also lately made a strong mark as a soloist with the album Piano to praise from critics around the world, and frequent concerts throughout the Nordic region. Together they form a classic acoustic piano trio with a focus on Mulelid’s energetic and harmonically rich compositions, with beautiful melodies and complex rhythms. The trio includes the feeling of calm and an unfolding texture and sound world in their music, but they are constantly in an intense interaction where improvisation takes the music on to a junction between the three musicians’ different musical experiences.
