The Secret Poetess of Terezin
“Incredibly touching. A moving way to honour history.” Talia Schlanger, CBC Q
The Secret Poetess of Terezin delivers an intensely personal, yet ultimately universal narrative. These are stories of a passionate woman, of love received, embraced, rejected, and lost; of dreams and relationships evolving and dissolving under the pressure of monumental historical events. The songs, along with spoken word pieces, projections of archival images, and specially curated video clips, are based on poems and stories found in notebooks written by the artist's grandmother while she was being held in a WWII concentration camp in Czechoslovakia.
November 9th marks the 86th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the 'Night of Broken Glass,' an infamous precursor to the Holocaust and the attempted annihilation of European Jews. Commemorating the date this year, the NAC presents a remarkable new show from Lenka Lichtenberg, a Juno Award winning musician, composer and performer whose crystalline voice and evocative stage presence create an unforgettable concert experience that has been winning over audiences around the world.
"A magnificent show, with great music and the beautiful performance of the author Lenka Lichtenberg, whose sweet and subtle interpretation brings a ray of happiness and hope to those attending."
