Little House of Horrors

It’s hard to believe, but it’s a true story — a genuine real-estate horror story, that of playwright Karen Hines and her lovely new home ... which turns out to be riddled with defects. Come in, come in, welcome to her home, please forgive the mess ... Follow her as she discovers—not without a sense of humour—disaster after disaster beneath the boards and bricks of her new abode. Absurd, clownish, but never far from the truth, Crawlspace takes an unflinching look at the brutal and ludicrous battleground of Toronto’s deplorable real estate market. A compelling study of the human condition, and an explanation of the importance of the decorative twig orbs that adorn the tables and nooks of houses for sale.

A human comedy, Crawlspace captures the stress of new home buyers, the social pressures they face, and the ruthless legal system within which they must operate. Winner of the Writers’ Guild of Alberta Literary Prize for Best Play, shortlisted for the Playwrights Guild of Canada’s Award for Best New Play, and nominated for five Dora Mavor Moore Awards, the original English-language version of the play has been performed to sold-out houses across Canada. Translated by Mishka Lavigne and starring Karine Ricard, artistic director of Théâtre français de Toronto, the French version has lost none of its bite. Make way for chaos!

Unfortunately, this venue is not wheelchair accessible.
