  Olivia C. Davies is a contemporary Indigenous artist who creates and collaborates across multiple platforms including choreography, creative writing, film, improvisation, and sound design. Davies’ body of work explores the emotional and political relationships between people and places, often investigating the body’s dynamic ability to transmit narrative, seeking to traverse boundaries and challenge social prejudice by conveying concepts and impressions that open different ways to experience the world.

  Her work has been presented in B.C., Alberta, Ontario and Quebec since 2011. She is the Artistic Director of O.Dela Arts, the Matriarchs Uprising Festival, and is a founding member of the Crow’s Nest Collective (Vancouver), MataDanze Collective (Toronto) and Circadia Indigena Arts Collective (Ottawa). She honours her mixed Anishinaabe, French Canadian, Finnish and Welsh heritage in her work.

  Olivia C. Davies est une artiste autochtone contemporaine qui crée et collabore sur de multiples plateformes, notamment la chorégraphie, l’écriture créative, le cinéma, l’improvisation et la conception sonore. L’ensemble de son œuvre explore les relations émotionnelles et politiques entre les gens et les lieux, en examinant souvent la capacité dynamique du corps à transmettre la narration, en cherchant à traverser les frontières et à défier les préjugés sociaux en transmettant des concepts et des impressions qui ouvrent différentes façons d’expérimenter le monde.

  Son travail a été présenté en Colombie-Britannique, en Alberta, en Ontario et au Québec depuis 2011. Elle est la directrice artistique de O.Dela Arts, du Matriarchs Uprising Festival, et est un membre fondateur de Crow’s Nest Collective (Vancouver), de MataDanze Collective (Toronto) et de Circadia Indigena Arts Collective (Ottawa). Avec ses oeuvres, elle rend hommage à son héritage mixte anishinaabe, canadien-français, finlandais et gallois.

  Guest Aria Evans

  Aria Evans is a queer, award winning interdisciplinary artist who’s practice spans dance; creation, performance and film. With a large-scale vision, collaboration is the departure point to their work created under their company POLITICAL MOVEMENT. Advocating for inclusion and the representation of diversity, Aria uses their artistic practice to question the ways we can coexist together. 

  Artiste interdisciplinaire queer ayant remporté plusieurs prix, Aria Evans embrasse danse, création, interprétation et cinéma. La collaboration avec une perspective à grande échelle est le point de départ des œuvres que crée sa compagnie, POLITICAL MOVEMENT. Préconisant l’inclusion et la représentation de la diversité, Evans remet en question, dans sa pratique artistique, les manières dont les êtres humains coexistent.

  Guest Jeanette Kotowich

  

  Guest Jeanette Kotowich

  Originally from Treaty 4 territory Saskatchewan, Jeanette Kotowich creates work that reflects Nêhiyaw/Métis cosmology within Indigenous performance, Indigenous futurism and contemporary dance. Her creations have been presented at theatres and festivals across so-called Canada, including Kwê at Matriarchs Uprising and The Dance Centre’s Dance In Vancouver. Jeanette’s been creating a series of short experimental dance films during the pandemic. She has been an artist-in-residence at Raven Spirit Dance, NAC Indigenous Theatre, Shadbolt Centre and The Dance Centre. In the summer of 2020, she conducted land-based research in her home province of Saskatchewan, fusing interdisciplinary collaboration, decolonial practices and embodied research towards the creation of Kisiskâciwan.

  Originaire du territoire du Traité no 4 en Saskatchewan, Jeanette Kotowich crée des œuvres qui transposent la cosmologie métisse-nêhiyaw dans les arts vivants autochtones, le futurisme autochtone et la danse contemporaine. Ses créations ont été présentées un peu partout dans ce pays qu’on appelle le Canada, notamment Kwê au festival Matriarchs Uprising et au Dance Centre de Vancouver. Pendant la pandémie, elle s’est lancée dans la réalisation de courts métrages expérimentaux de danse. Elle a participé à plusieurs résidences artistiques au Raven Spirit Dance, Théâtre autochtone du CNA, Shadbolt Centre et Dance Centre. Au cours de l’été 2020, elle mène des travaux de recherche dans sa province natale, la Saskatchewan, misant sur les collaborations interdisciplinaires, les pratiques de travail décoloniales et la recherche incarnée. De ce travail est né le spectacle Kisiskâciwan.

  Guest Samantha Sutherland

  

  Guest Samantha Sutherland

  Samantha Sutherland is a contemporary dance artist, choreographer, and teacher based in Tkaronto. Her ancestry is Ktunaxa and Scottish/British Settler. She graduated from the Arts Umbrella Dance Diploma Program in 2018. She has worked as a guest artist with Ballet BC and an associate artist with Red Sky Performance. Samantha has presented choreographic works in the Matriarchs Uprising Festival by O.Dela Arts, the Paprika Festival, and Sharing the Stage with the National Ballet of Canada. 

  Samantha explores what aspects of her culture, history, and traditional knowledge can be pulled into her contemporary dance practice. She questions how she can use a dance practice built with euro-centric training and still honour Indigenous values and the act of decolonization. She strives to keep what she values and loves about classical training and use it to tell the Indigenous story.

  Samantha Sutherland est une chorégraphe, artiste de danse contemporaine et enseignante établie à Tkaronto. Descendante de pionniers écossais et britanniques et de membres de la Nation Ktunaxa, elle a fréquenté l’école de danse Arts Umbrella, dont elle est sortie diplômée en 2018. Invitée du Ballet British Columbia, elle a été artiste associée auprès de Red Sky Performance. Ses chorégraphies ont été présentées au festival Matriarchs Uprising d’O.Dela Arts, au Paprika Festival et lors de la résidence en extérieur du Ballet national du Canada, Sharing the Stage.

  Samantha Sutherland aime partager sa culture, son histoire et les savoirs traditionnels dans sa pratique de la danse contemporaine. Elle remet en question l’eurocentrisme de l’apprentissage de la danse, tout en rendant hommage aux valeurs autochtones et se plait à reprendre les codes de la formation classique pour raconter l’histoire des Autochtones.

  Guest Sophie Dow

  Treaty 1-born Sophie Dow is a multidisciplinary creative inspired by dance, music, film, collaboration and Métis-Assiniboine + settler/stranger roots. An avid adventurer, Sophie exudes passions for busking, yoga and travelling and holds a degree in Dance Performance and Choreography from York University. Sophie presently fulfills roles as creative director of PEC’s Flight Festival, artistic associate of O.Dela Arts & Chimera Dance Theatre, a musician with The Honeycomb Flyers, a licensed practitioner of Traditional Thai Massage and student of BreathWave. 

  Sophie Dow est une artiste pluridisciplinaire originaire du territoire du Traité n° 6. Son travail explore la danse, la musique, le cinéma et son héritage familial métisse-assiniboine et colonial. Intrépide aventurière, Sophie Dow voue une passion débordante pour la marche, le yoga et les voyages. Elle est diplômée en danse et chorégraphie de l’Université York. Sophie Dow a plusieurs cordes à son arc : directrice artistique du Flight Festival du comté de Prince Edward, associée artistique d’O.Dela Arts et du Chimera Dance Theatre, membre du groupe de musique The Honeycomb Flyers et praticienne agréée en massage thaï traditionnel. Elle suit actuellement une formation à la pratique de respiration BreathWave.
