In 1948, a telephone booth was set up in the Mojave Desert in southern California for the use of local miners. Decades later, the mining industry withdrew from the area, leaving behind this single phone booth as the only trace of civilization in the desert landscape.
Present everywhere, but gradually becoming invisible, the phone booth has dissolved into the landscape. What, then, is the value of the conversations that took place there, the graffiti scrawled on it or the shelter it provided?
That’s the premise of this single-viewer installation. Enter the abandoned artifact that the telephone booth has become and pick up the receiver. The rest is up to you.
Cabin is an outdoor installation / performance, subject to weather conditions.
