Onstage are several objects. In the hands of the actors-puppeteers of La Tortue Noire, these ordinary objects – seemingly without value, lying here and there on two tables – are transformed before the spectator’s eyes. Magic occurs, supported by the very striking writing of Daniel Danis.
At age 12, Kiwi must learn everything anew. Abandoned in a city that seeks to sweep away the destitute, she is welcomed into a closely-knit community of young people who live a clandestine existence, and thus a new life opens up for her.
A fairy tale devoid of fairies, the play evokes the harsh reality of millions of children. Despite her difficult position, the little girl demonstrates how we can stick together, help each other and dream of a brighter future.
