A four time Grammy winner and Golden Globe nominee, Antonio Sánchez has long been one of the most well-regarded drummers of his generation, being until 2014 best known for his 15-year ongoing collaboration with guitarist Pat Metheny. That year a call from Sánchez’s friend, filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu, led to the drummer composing and performing the score to the Academy Award-winning film Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance). The film’s soundtrack, an innovative, percussive tour-de-force, brought Sánchez’s unique vision to an unprecedented new audience.

Sánchez’s Migration Quartet’s recent work takes its conceptual lead from the Birdman score, presenting jazz defined by its seamlessness, continuity and kinetic virtuosity. Taking full advantage of the versatility and wide-ranging palette of his quartet, Sánchez’s recent live performances and recordings reinforce his place at the vanguard of modern jazz.
