Born in Switzerland, based in Berlin, but raised musically during his time in New York’s Downtown scene, Sam Blaser is considered by many to be the leading light of European experimental jazz trombone, cultivating a signature sound accentuated by a creative assortment of mutes and vocalized techniques. Parisian pianist and electronic experimentalist Benoît Delbecq is equally at home exploring a wide range of sounds and tones (he is a master of prepared piano) and has appeared on nearly 100 recordings both comfortably within jazz and also within contemporary classical music. New Haven-born percussionist Gerry Hemingway came of musical age playing with Anthony Braxton in the late 1970s (he was a member of Braxton’s quartet for 11 years) and is largely responsible for introducing many of extended techniques now commonplace in contemporary drumming.
