Saxophonist MIKE MURLEY has emerged as one of Canada’s finest jazz artists, with his critically acclaimed recordings placing him at the forefront of the jazz scene over the past three decades. Rooted in the jazz tradition but not constrained by it, the MIKE MURLEY SEPTET reflects the strong, lyrical musicality for which Mike has become known, moving nimbly between mainstream standards, electric jazz, and improvisation and composition.
Mike’s septet includes an all-star group of musicians: TARA DAVIDSON (soprano and alto sax), KEVIN TURCOTTE (trumpet), WILLIAM CARN (trombone), DAVID BRAID (piano), JIM VIVIAN (bass), and TED WARREN (drums). Their arrangements strive to maintain the open concept of a smaller jazz ensemble and are constructed around a buoyant rhythm section that can take the music in any direction.
