NAC is extending performance and event cancellations and postponements until June 14

I’m an artist. How do I apply?

The National Arts Centre will receive and administer applications until April 20, 2020 with performances currently scheduling until May 31, 2020 from professional Canadian performing artists who would like to post an online performance.  Selected artists will receive a financial grant, and their performances will be shared on the NAC’s Facebook page which will be discoverable by searching #CanadaPerforms. Artists or  ensembles must be limited to no more than five people (please follow your provincial guidelines).

Professional Canadian performing artists or ensembles and professionally published authors with a book release in spring or summer 2020 simply need to write to  the National Arts Centre at CanadaPerforms@nac-cna.ca with the following information:

If you are a professional theatre, dance, or circus artist:

provide your name and the names of other artists who will be involved (if applicable), a brief project description of the proposed performance (no more than 250 words), approximate run time, what part of Canada you are from, a brief comment on why you are applying (100 words maximum) and on which social media platform you wish to share your work. Please remember that your work must be livestreamed for 45-60 minutes, not recorded

If you are a professional musician or children’s performer:

provide your name, a brief description of what type of music you perform (folk, hip hop, classical, baroque, metal, etc), what part of Canada you are from, a brief comment on why you are applying (100 words maximum), and on which social media platform you wish to share your work.  For classical artists, it is useful to include the repertoire you wish to perform if possible.  Please remember that your work must be livestreamed for approximately 45-60 minutes, not recorded.

If you are a professionally published author with a spring or summer 2020 book release:

provide your name, your book title, publishing house, release date, genre of work, what part of Canada you are from, a brief comment on why you are applying (100 words maximum), and on which social media platform you wish to share your work.  Please remember that your work must be livestreamed for 15-20 plus Q&A, not recorded.

A committee will review the submission and if selected, the artists will schedule a live stream with #CanadaPerforms at a mutually agreeable time. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or Canadian residents. The NAC will select fund recipients in consultation with industry leaders. The NAC will announce online performances via its Facebook page for Canadians to watch and enjoy. Please note that due to the large volume of applications, the NAC will only be able to respond to successful applicants.
