Oboe 2024 NACO Bursary Winner

Luca Ortolani

Luca Ortolani has performed with ensembles including the Kentucky Symphony, the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, and the Orchestre de la Francophonie. Recently, he performed the Vaughan Williams Oboe Concerto with the Strings Attached Orchestra in Toronto. Luca has also performed in several prominent chamber concert series, such as the Next Generation Series with Concert Nova and The Bach Ensemble at St. Thomas, both in Cincinnati, the Ottawa Chamberfest, and the Kingston Road Brandenburg Project in Toronto.

Luca is the recipient of the 2024 National Arts Centre Orchestra Bursary; the 2024 Sturdevant Prize for Orchestra Excerpts; the Louise Schaefer Wilshire Scholarship, awarded in 2022 by the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM); and the Vic Pomer Award, given as part of the 2022 National Arts Centre Orchestra Bursary Competition.

Having completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto, Luca is currently concluding a Master’s degree at CCM, under the tutelage of Titus Underwood. In the Fall of 2024, he will be begin an Artist Diploma under the tutelage of Eugene Izotov at The Colburn School in Los Angeles.
