Kristopher Kurus is proud to be born and raised in Winnipeg. The prairies have inspired and shaped his cooking, the beautiful bounty of the summers just as much as the harsh, cold winters. However, his first and greatest inspiration in the kitchen will always be his Oma – the best cook he knows.

Over the years, Chef Kris has worked in restaurants that went on to become some of the top restaurants in Canada. He worked as a sous chef at Published on Main in Vancouver, and he has also been a Chef for RAW: almond, a 22-day fine dining festival held in a pop-up restaurant hosted on the frozen rivers of Winnipeg.

More recently, he worked at deer + almond, a creative, gourmet food restaurant with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The restaurant featured a four-course tasting menu made with ingredients from across Manitoba, and Canada.

In February 2024, Chef Kris represented Winnipeg at Canada’s Great Kitchen Party, a culinary competition of emerging and established Canadian culinary talent. It was the most incredible honour of his life to come to Ottawa to represent Winnipeg in Canada’s Great Kitchen Party, and he can’t wait to return to Ottawa for his residency.
