NAC Presents In partnership with BMO Financial Group JUNO-award-winning Digging Roots Wednesday, June 18 NAC Fourth Stage, 8:00 p.m.

OTTAWA – Just a day after the release of their newest album “For the Light” NAC Presents, in partnership with BMO Financial Group,  is thrilled to welcome the genre-blurring indie-roots/Aboriginal-alternative band Digging Roots to the NAC Fourth Stage.

Musical partners Raven Kanatakta and ShoShona Kish form the basis of the Digging Roots sound,  blending influences of everything from blues to reggae, and from hip hop to indie-rock.

Inspired by their travels, “For The Light” is a kaleidoscope of global roots and blues infused songs born from the inner cities, the back roads and everywhere in between.  The album’s twelve songs, co-written by Raven and ShoShona, reflect a refined sense of storytelling – luminous and sophisticated.  Richly weaving subtle references and sounds from their indigenous roots, the lyrics tell the tales of travelers, troublemakers, lovers and heroes.

An eclectic tapestry of light and dark sound, “For The Light” includes stories of resistance and resilience, simple pleasures and wide open spaces. Songs like the moody ‘The Time has Come for Going’ and the intimate longing of ‘Stay’ blend a whimsical thread of idealism with the proposal that  love can keep the darkness at bay.  ‘Highway 17’ takes a fierce bluesy stand against the darkness of human nature and then there is a relaxed, unaffected optimism on ‘I’ve Got it Bad’, ‘All Night’ and the album’s title track ‘For The Light’.

Digging Roots will perform in the NAC Fourth Stage on Wednesday, June 18 at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25.
