A Porte Parole (Montreal) production

March 17, 2014 – OTTAWA (Canada) – “Seeds is great journalism, and even better theatre.” -  The Montreal Gazette

Everything starts with a seed.

From playwright Annabel Soutar, Seeds is a dramatic re-enactment of the four-year legal battle between Saskatchewan farmer Percy Schmeiser and one of the biggest biotech corporations, Monsanto Inc.

Based on court trial transcripts, along with interviews with both Schmeiser and Monsanto, as well as farmers, academics, lawyers and scientists from all across Canada, this passionate and provocative docudrama – part courtroom confrontation, part social satire – sows the seeds of doubt.

The highly-acclaimed Seeds, featuring the one-and-only Eric Peterson in the role of Percy Schmeiser, leads us through a high-voltage labyrinth of political manoeuvring, patent wars, and cash-fuelled science. Quite simply, Seeds is about the food we eat. Thought-provoking and irreverent, this deft piece of theatrical storytelling is an intellectual and emotional tour de force.

Named the Best English Production of 2005 by the Association québécoise des critiques de théâtre (AQCT) and nominated for Best Original Script in 2005 by the Académie québécoise de théâtre, this powerful production has been touring across Canada since October, playing in Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver before its run at the National Arts Centre.

(…) Soutar’s script – along with Abraham’s direction and a crackerjack cast – succeed in making one think this is the only possible way the story could ever be distilled into digestible form.” -  The Charlebois Post

Featuring Eric Peterson, Christine Beaulieu, Bruce Dinsmore, Mariah Inger, Alex Ivanovici, Tanja Jacobs and Cary Lawrence.

The creative team includes: Director Chris Abraham; Associate Director Mitchell Cushman; Set and Costume Designer Julie Fox; Lighting Designer Ana Cappelluto; Sound Designer and Composer Richard Feren; Video and Projection/Media Design Elyshia Poirier; Video Operator Angeline St-Amour; Stage Manager Merissa Tordjman and Technical Director Camille Robillard.
