National Arts Centre unveils Sneak Peek of the NAC Presents 2013-14 season
All-Canadian series in partnership with BMO Financial Group features the best in contemporary music, with Rufus Wainwright, an Ian Tyson/Corb Lund double bill, Ron Sexsmith and more!
OTTAWA—The National Arts Centre is delighted to unveil the 2013-14 fall lineup for NAC Presents in partnership with BMO Financial Group, the NAC’s all-Canadian series that boldly shines the spotlight on contemporary music.
The lineup includes two spectacular shows in Southam Hall. International superstar Rufus Wainwright (Nov. 2) returns to the NAC after his incredible performance two years ago, and will be performing numbers from his newest release “Out of the Game,” produced by Mark Ronson. And later that month, NAC Presents offers a double bill featuring the legendary musician and storyteller Ian Tyson and Corb Lund (Nov. 30), the Canadian Country Music Assocation’s Roots Artist of the Year for seven years in a row. Keeping it all in the family, Rufus Wainwright’s sister, the acclaimed and immensely expressive Martha Wainwright, will perform in the NAC Studio (Oct.17). Two nights later the poetic and affecting Ron Sexsmith, admired by the likes of Bob Dylan, Elton John, Steve Earle and Lucinda Williams, takes the Studio stage (Oct.19).
Hitting the Fourth Stage in October are the sister act folk duo Les Soeurs Boulay (Oct. 9), electro pop sensation Royal Canoe (Oct. 22) and indie darling Kalle Mattson (Oct. 25). November brings more dazzling shows to the popular cabaret venue, with a double bill pairing the bluesy-country-rootsy Devin Cuddy (son of Blue Rodeo’s Jim Cuddy) with the throwback charm of Whitney Rose (Nov. 2); indie-pop star Hannah Georgas (Nov. 7-8); up-and-coming progressive roots duo Scarlett Jane (Nov. 23); LeE HARVeY OsMOND, featuring Canadian roots-rock favourite Tom Wilson of Junkhouse and Blackie and the Rodeo Kings fame (Nov. 15-16); country-folk-indie-rockers The Wooden Sky (Nov. 21); Quebec rising star Karim Ouellet (Nov. 27); and the sensational country-rock charm of Lindi Ortega (Nov. 28-29). In December, blues-rocker Steve Hill comes to the Fourth Stage (Dec. 5), and, later that month, NAC Presents offers two fabulous holiday offerings in the Studio to get you in the Christmas spirit – Ottawa-based jazz singer Kellylee Evans (Dec. 18) and the beloved Newfoundland indie-folk band The Once (Dec. 19), both returning after a sell-out show last year.
“We are incredibly excited to have such a wide range of fantastic artists as part of the NAC Presents 2013-14 lineup, and I can’t wait to reveal the whole season in September,” said NAC Presents Producer, Simone Deneau. “We’re also tremendously thankful to BMO Financial Group for their continued and generous support.”
NAC Presents is nearing the close of another extremely successful season in 2012–2013 that included 22 sold-out shows and an extremely receptive audience of Canadian music fans. NAC Presents’ third season promises to be another incredible ride. The full lineup will be revealed at the season launch on September 24, 2013.
NAC Presents is also grateful to the Slaight Family Foundation, whose Slaight Family Fund for Emerging Artists supports performances by emerging artists on the NAC Presents 2013-2014 season. They include Les Soeurs Boulay, Les Hay Babies and Karim Ouellet, Kalle Mattson, Devin Cuddy, Whitney Rose, Scarlett Jane and Lindi Ortega. All performances will highlight the supreme talents of these artists as they take place in the NAC Fourth Stage—Ottawa’s intimate and extremely popular cabaret venue.
NAC Presents would also like to acknowledge its Official Hotel Partner: Hotel Indigo Ottawa.
