Tango Pasión brings the precision and intensity of authentic Argentine tango to the NAC on February 21, 2012
Tango Pasión, a larger than life production celebrating the incendiary art of tango, fills the NAC’s Southam Hall on February 21, 2012. The internationally acclaimed Argentine company showcases sensational dancers from among Buenos Aires’ best and explores the ever-evolving dance form through 30 distinct scenes.
To create the visually spectacular production, Artistic Directors Mel Howard, José Libertella, and choreographer Hector Zaraspe spent months in the heart of Buenos Aires. After handpicking the superb cast, the team wove together a collection of tantalizing tango stories representing the full range of Argentine society.
Set in a quaint Buenos Aires café, Tango Pasión features 10 intense dancers - five women full of coquettish charm and technical precision coupled with five men of pure strength and charisma. The heart-pounding spectacle is accompanied by live music from the Tango Pasión Sexteto, an incredible ensemble of singers and instrumentalists who capture the drama, love, and passion of the tango.
The company enjoyed its world premiere at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in January of 1996, and have since given more than 120 performances of seven different shows in front of thousands of enthusiastic spectators. Hailed as a “masterpiece” by critics around the globe, and playing to packed houses wherever they tour, Tango Pasión dazzles audiences with their swooning lunges, flashing kicks, and stabbing quicksteps.
Tango Pasión is a sensual, virtuosic sight with stunning solo performances, mesmerizing duets, and tightly synchronized group dances. The deeply authentic production is a passionate, spellbinding tribute to one of the world’s most celebrated dance forms.
" Tango Pasión is a totally flawless masterpiece of theatre…”
