MOMIX performs their smash hit Botanica at the NAC on March 19, 2011

MOMIX performs Botanica in an exclusive Canadian engagement at the NAC’s Southam Hall on March 19, 2011. The performance is sold out, but those still interested should check for last minute returns.

Defying categorization just as its dancers defy gravity, Moses Pendleton’s company of dancer-illusionists is celebrated around the world for its ability to conjure enthralling chimeras using light, shadow, props, and the boundless invention of the human body.

Sold-out at venues across the globe and widely hailed as their hottest show yet, Botanica traffics in the tension between illusion and reality, following the rhythms of the New England seasons, but also the evolution of the world and the passing of a day. To a score that includes Vivaldi’s "Four Seasons" as well as music by Béninoise songstress Angélique Kidjo, flowers bloom, go to seed and die; vegetable, animal and mineral – all in human form – combine and metamorphose in spectacular moving tableaux creating a total dance theatre environment.

MOMIX has astonished audiences on five continents for more than 30 years. In addition to stage performances world-wide, MOMIX has worked in film and television, recently appearing in a national commercial for Hanes underwear and a Target ad that premiered during the airing of the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards.

"With puppets, lighting, props, colorful and plentiful costumes and his athletic and tireless troupe of 10, Pendleton made all the right moves to keep all eyes glued on the continuous parade of illusions – fanciful flights that were delightful and brilliant."
