In the third CTV Pops concert of the season, the National Arts Centre Orchestra joins forces with the extravagantly entertaining Canadian Brass on January 13, 14, and 15 in Southam Hall
In the third CTV Pops concert of the NAC Orchestra’s 2010-11 season, conductor Alain Trudel leads the National Arts Centre Orchestra and special guests Canadian Brass. This brass spectacular takes place in Southam Hall on Thursday January 13, Friday January 14, and Saturday January 15, 2011 at 8 p.m.

From the minute they bound onto the stage in their trademark sneakers, to their grand finale, you’ll know you’re in for a great night at the CTV Pops Series! Playing everything from the blues to the Beatles, the Fabulous Five’s incredible talent and consummate musicianship (not to mention their infectious humour, hilarious hijinks, and entertaining rapport with audiences) have delighted sold-out houses around the globe. The music is central and always performed with dedication and skill, but what most audiences revel in is the entertainment, spontaneity, virtuosity, and sheer fun of a Canadian Brass performance.
Five tremendous brass musicians – Chuck Daellenbach (tuba), Christopher Coletti and Brandon Ridenour (trumpets), Keith Dyrda (trombone), and Eric Reed (horn), each a virtuoso in his own right – make up the legendary Canadian Brass. Formed in 1970 and true pioneers in bringing brass music to mass audiences everywhere, the group is still going strong four decades later, with an international reputation as one of the most popular brass ensembles in the world. With a discography of over 90 albums and sales in the millions, numerous awards, and a busy worldwide touring schedule, the group has transformed a previously neglected group of instruments with a limited repertoire into a versatile and vital ensemble that can play everything from Gabrieli to Gershwin.
FRIENDS OF THE NAC ORCHESTRA SILENT AUCTION
The Friends of the National Arts Centre Orchestra will be hosting a silent auction in the main foyer of the NAC on January 13 and 15. Bid on outstanding items from across Canada and around the world before the concert, during intermission, and for 20 minutes following the performance. Proceeds from the auctions will benefit music education programs for young people.
The NAC Orchestra and Canadian Brass perform in Southam Hall of the National Arts Centre on Thursday January 13, Friday January 14, and Saturday January 15, 2011 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20.45, $31.21, $42.51, $53.81, $64.57, $75.33, and $94.17 for adults and $11.38, $16.76, $22.41, $28.06, $33.44, $38.82, and $48.24 for students (upon presentation of a valid student ID card). Subject to availability, full-time students (aged 13-29) with valid Live Rush™ membership (free registration at www.liverush.ca) may buy up to 2 tickets per performance at the discount price of $12 per ticket.
