The NAC offers a wide range of new – many free – virtual arts learning resources on a revamped website, in addition to exciting in-person programming

August 25, 2022 – OTTAWA (Canada) – In 2022-2023, we welcome educators, parents, and kids of all ages to check out our workshops for students, performances for families and schools, professional development events, resources for artists, and more.

Arts Alive – a collaboration between the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Dance, Indigenous Theatre, English Theatre and French Theatre, as well as Popular Music and Variety – offers learning and engagement programming in music, theatre, and dance, both within and outside of the National Capital Region. We also work with partners and communities to produce and support programming across the country.

NEW IN-PERSON PROGRAMMING FOR SCHOOLS

Arts Alive programming is available in-person again, and educators in the National Capital Region can invite us to present new workshops and old favourites in their classrooms. Making a theatrical time capsule, learning to write plays, creating characters inspired by nature – these are a few of the new activities available. Keep visiting our website (hyperlink) or subscribe to our newsletter for new offerings throughout the season, including dance and music workshops currently in development.

SCHOOL MATINEES AT THE NAC

Educators can choose from a concert performance, puppet theatre, playful and poetic theatre, Sky Dancers, the latest Michel Tremblay or a special delivery to the classroom. Check out the school matinees available to educators and their students throughout the NAC’s 2022-2023 season.

FREE VIRTUAL ARTS RESOURCES

With our free virtual arts resources, we are bringing toddlers, children, youth and even adults the joy of the performing arts. From video learning series about Indigenous dance, the music of India, or the roots of reggae, to creative workshops, theatre and choir performances, or colouring pages featuring Indigenous words from across Turtle Island, there’s something for everyone. One of the best things about these resources? Not only are they free, but they are also available right where you are – in classrooms or living rooms anywhere in the country and around the world.

The National Arts Centre is Canada’s bilingual, multi-disciplinary home for the performing arts. The NAC presents, creates, produces, and co-produces performing arts programming in various streams — the NAC Orchestra, Dance, English Theatre in collaboration with Black Theatre Workshop, French Theatre, Indigenous Theatre, and Popular Music and Variety — and nurtures the next generation of audiences and artists from across Canada. The NAC is located in the National Capital Region on the unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe.
