THE NATIONAL ARTS CENTRE REGRETS THE CLOSURE OF OPERA LYRA
October 14, 2015 – OTTAWA (Canada) – It is with great regret that the National Arts Centre learned of the closure of Opera Lyra today. The NAC has worked closely with Opera Lyra for more than two decades, during which time the company established a proud record of presenting excellent productions in the national capital region.
“Over the course of many years Opera Lyra achieved artistic success, particularly under the leadership of General Director John Peter (Jeep) Jeffries. They trained many young singers who have attained international careers, and had some box office success particularly with the production of Carmen in 2013,” said Christopher Deacon the Managing Director of the NAC Orchestra. “We know how hard Opera Lyra’s Staff and Board worked to sustain the company. This is an extraordinarily sad day for the performing arts in Ottawa.”
Patrons with Opera Lyra tickets can exchange their tickets, or receive a voucher for an NAC production during the 2015-2016 season, subject to availability. Please contact the NAC box office in person or electronically at exchanges@nac-cna.ca.
