Eaux for children 6 months and over at the NAC Studio

Ottawa, 20 October 2014 – The Enfance series at the NAC French Theatre is finally underway! Inaugurating these impressive presentations for young audiences is the dynamic piece Eaux for children 6 months to age 5, by Laurence P. Lafaille and Audrey Marchand. Kids keen on discovery are encouraged to make their way to the NAC Studio on November 1 and 2 for shows at 10 and 11:30 a.m. and also at 2:30 p.m.

Onstage a dancer and a bassist take the audience on a watercolour journey full of emotion, deep down to the seabed and an underwater world. The odyssey begins when the dancer advances toward what we imagine to be the ocean, and after dipping her toes into the water, plunges right in! From initially calm waters she ventures into the swirling, mysterious depths, accompanied by sweet, enveloping vibrations created by the musician. The result is an immersive experience, a soothing wash of undercurrents and sensations created by a dance and bass duo that knows how to make waves..

After the success of Édredon, presented at the NAC in 2013, the theatre company Les Incomplètes continues to make its mark with works for young audiences. With Eaux, which combines dance, music, theatre and darting jellyfish, they have concocted a sensorial voyage that plunges children into a peaceful and delightful aquatic universe, rich with artistic awakenings.

“Young children have not yet succumbed to the codes of theatre,” notes Audrey Marchand. “We like that somewhat wild and primitive aspect, walking that tightrope. They demand a strong stage presence and our full attention. And we like to imagine that ours is the very first show they’ve ever seen.”

Conceived and directed by: Laurence P. Lafaille and Audrey Marchand // choreography and performance: Josiane Bernier // bassist: Symon Marcoux // set and costume design: Dominic Thibault // sound: Simon Elmaleh // lighting and stage mechanics: Philippe Lessard Drolet // produced by: Les Incomplètes

PRE-SHOW ACTIVITIES ARE BACK!

Children’s Book Nook

To accompany the performance Eaux, the Théâtre français will be inaugurating a new space set aside for children. Established in association with the Ottawa Public Library, the book nook is an opportunity for children of all ages to discover books that complement the themes explored in this year’s presentations. The book nook is presented in addition to the artistic activities currently available to families in the Studio lobby 45 minutes before the start of each performance.
