Je n'y suis plus presented by the NAC French Theatre

Ottawa, 3 septembEr 2013Are you feeling adrift? Adrift in the workaday world, at sea as regards relations with others? Ariane is a pleasant young woman who gives voice to her slipping and sliding in a torrent of words as she describes a life that is fraying at the seams. She is a vessel that is taking on water, plunging headlong toward an unpredictable, savage state. Between her employer’s cupcakes and her life as a single girl in the city, Ariane loses her bearings and withdraws into her shell, into implosion.

An emerging young artist from the Gatineau region and recipient of the Fondation pour l’avancement du théâtre francophone au Canada award in 2011, Magali Lemèle, assisted by her co-director Louise Naubert, directs and performs a fascinating script by Marie-Claude Verdier, one that strips bare the mechanics of the everyday. Accompanied onstage by a musician who underscores the monologue with rhythmic punctuation, Magali Lemèle presents this new theatre piece, a work that constantly shifts between distress and self-deprecation.
