NAC Dance with Cathy Levy

An interview with Margaret and Andrew Grenier of Dancers of Damelahamid

with Dr. Lindsay Lachance

This Indigenous History Month, we celebrate that Indigenous Theatre is now a permanent platform dedicated to bringing the works of Indigenous artists to the national stage.

Margaret and Andrew Grenier, respective Executive & Artistic Director and Creative Producer of Dancers of Damelahamid, recorded this interview before bringing their work to Indigenous Theatre’s premiere Indigenous Arts Festival, Mòshkamo. Based in Vancouver, the family-led Dancers of Damelahamid has built on over half a century of public performance to establish itself as a preeminent professional Indigenous dance company. In this 20-minute podcast, Margaret Grenier talks with NAC Indigenous Theatre Artistic Associate Lindsay Lachance about growing up immersed in the knowledge and practice of her family’s Gitxsan lineage and tradition, revitalizing cultural traditions, and how the traditional meets the contemporary in dance work showcase at Mòshkamo, Mînowin.
