Concord Floral: a true reflection of teenage life

Suburban Beast's production of Concord Floral is a reimagining of Giovanni Boccaccio's medieval allegory The Decameron in a contemporary suburb. For this highly entertaining tale, Creators/Directors Erin Brubacher and Cara Spooner have brought together a cast made up of ten young actors from different neighbourhoods across the city of Ottawa.

"We're really committed to casting actual teenagers and that's absolutely integral to us." says Brubacher. This is a refreshing change from the glossy stereotypes that are often presented in the media. The cast is a true reflection of the lives of today's teenagers and the cultural diversity of their community. "Young people in the audience may recognize themselves and perhaps feel empowered to create pieces of culture themselves." adds Spooner.

Concord Floral will reach even an even wider audience when it is presented in Whitehorse in June 2016 as part of the Magnetic North Theatre Festival co-produced by the National Arts Centre.
