It has been an incredible journey for Peterborough singer-songwriter Royal Wood.
Since being proclaimed the “Songwriter of the Year”, by iTunes in 2008, Royal has continued to evolve and hone his musical craft – maintaining an unmistakable identity while uncovering and reinventing his sound. The multi-JUNO nominee had no idea where his relationship with the National Arts Centre would take him when he first performed on the Studio stage in November 2010. He quickly became an NAC Presents favourite and his Ottawa-Gatineau fan base continued to grow. He was invited again to a bigger venue, the NAC Theatre, where Royal wowed audiences twice, both times in front of full houses. Being part of the NAC Presents series, in partnership with BMO Financial Group, has had a significant impact on his career.
"Playing to a full house at the National Arts Centre was so special, so energizing. It was an honour. I’m now performing around the world, in part because of the respect there is internationally for the NAC. If you’ve headlined there, you can stand tall" said Royal.
Each time Royal visited the NAC for his live performances; he would always make a stop at the majestic Southam Hall, thinking he would be back to perform in this very special venue; a promise he had made to himself when he was touring with David Grey in 2010 and opened for him in Southam Hall. When NAC Presents producer Simone Deneau offered Royal Wood a date in his dream venue, he was honoured to have this unique opportunity.
"Every artist will one day look back at his history and remember the journey one way or another. My performance with the NAC Orchestra will be one of the pinnacles of my career." – Royal Wood
Royal Wood will perform in Southam Hall with special guest Rose Cousins and the NAC Orchestra on May 6th, 2016
