Celebrate Canada at the National Arts Centre! Free Canada Day concerts with the NAC Orchestra, Unisong and other fun activities

Ottawa, Canada – The National Arts Centre’s Canada Day tradition continues with fun activities for the whole family.

The incredible lineup includes: 

  • the NAC Orchestra and the 250 choristers Unisong Choir with guest conductor
    Scott Leithead
  • the popular Kids Corner with storyteller Michel Farant and a coloring postcard activity
  • break-dance performance by Canadian dance company Culture Shock
  • a mix of musical genres with Random Recipe on the outdoor stage
  • entertainment with Ottawa Stilt Union.

Everyone is welcome and activities are free throughout the day.

The NAC’s July 1st tradition attracts thousands of visitors each year and provides families visiting the activities on Parliament Hill an oasis of fun for the whole family. Canada Day at the NAC is presented by Mark Motors of Ottawa.

Highlights of the day include: 

10 a.m.

 

Unisong Massed Choir 2011
250 choristers from across Canada perform in concert.

11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Break-dance performance by Culture Shock
Learn how to dance to hip-hop music! (Outdoor performance on the NAC Terrace, corner or Elgin and Queen) 

10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Delicious Canada Day Brunch (Le Café Restaurant)


11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 


Kids Corner
Entertainment and music by storyteller Michel Farant, activities and lots of fun for kids (Le Salon)

11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Ottawa Stilt Union
Animation and performance at 1 p.m. by this theatre company which uses stilts, acrobatics and other forms of extreme physical action to tell stories. (Lawrence Freiman Lane)

11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Canada Day BBQ

Noon to 5 p.m.

Beer Garden
 

2:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.

 

Random Recipe
This group will perform hip-hop, bossa-nova, electro, tri-hop, lullaby, jazz, kazoo and much more!

2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m

National Arts Centre Orchestra and Unisong Choir
Senator Tommy Banks leads the NAC Orchestra and the Unisong Choir with special guest vocalist Ranee Lee and saxophonist P.J. Perry (Southam Hall)

5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
