The NAC is launching exciting new programming for the summer
May 2, 2022 – OTTAWA (Canada) – From June to August 2022, the NAC welcomes locals and visitors alike to enjoy music, dance, theatre, children’s camps and more happening in its halls, and outdoors at the rooftop wooden terrace and along the Rideau canal. All together Now is the NAC’s first ever summer series and features more than 200 shows in free and accessibly priced programs.
Whether you are strolling downtown on a summer night or looking for a family-friendly event, there will be something for everyone, every day of the week.
“This summer, spend some quality time outdoors or inside our halls with great music, dance, and theatre – it's the perfect summer for it,” said Heather Gibson, Executive Producer of NAC Popular Music and Variety. “After a long winter and many months of limited social gatherings, it’s time to be all together now.”
SUMMER PROGRAMMING HIGHLIGHTS
Stage Series
Take a seat in Southam Hall and sing along to beloved Broadway blockbusters, or settle into the Babs Asper Theatre, the Azrieli Studio, or the Fourth Stage to connect with Canadian, Indigenous, Nordic and international artists including Tomson Highway: KISAAGEETIN* *(I love you/Je t'aime), Ballets Jazz Montréal, Judy Collins, and so much more.
Feeling of Free
From June 30 to July 30, every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday at 4:30 p.m., The Lionyls, Andy Rubal + Miguel de Armas, and members of the NAC Orchestra, will play separate shows aboard a boat as it cruises down the Rideau canal. Check our website for the schedule.
11 am pop ups will be happening on the wooden terrace (weather permitting) or inside the NAC. Get moving with Powwow Workouts, and GYROKINESIS® for all abilities.
Take your lunch to the Atrium at noon and enjoy live musical performances!
Wooden Terrace
The public can access the NAC’s wooden terrace and its iconic view from Elgin Street or the Mackenzie King Bridge. Every Tuesday and Wednesday night, audiences can catch a variety of live music at 7 pm including Djely Tapa, OKAN, Moneka Arabic Jazz, Aysanabee and more! These performances are also free.
$8 Plays
Almost every week this summer, catch an $8 play at the Fourth Stage. Each play runs for a week.
One last thing! Toronto-based artist Heather Nicol, whose practice includes immersive sound installation and sculpture, will also be featured in the halls of the NAC. Her site-specific interventions have been presented nationally and internationally. Her works explore the architectural, sonic, historic, and operational conditions of the locations where they are presented. Nicol’s sound and kinetic exhibit will be available to view all summer.
LIFTING SPIRITS AND THE CULTURAL SECTOR
The NAC’s eclectic 2022 summer programming will go a long way in supporting the recovery of the National Capital Region’s cultural and tourism sector recovery after a difficult period caused by the pandemic.
“For more than a year the NAC has worked with its partners at Ottawa Tourism, the City of Ottawa and other federal cultural institutions to identify and promote safe and memorable cultural experiences for local audiences and visitors,” said Christopher Deacon, NAC President and CEO. “The NAC’s summer programming will offer outstanding live entertainment to lift spirits and touch hearts and minds.”

The National Arts Centre raised its curtains for the first time in 1969.
