A Night of Classical Collisions: Beethoven and Schumann Meet the turntables with DJ Skratch Bastid

OTTAWA (Canada) – It’s a night of Classical Collisions at the NAC! On Friday, October 14, Canadian DJ Skratch Bastid will give Beethoven and Schumann a turntable mash-up in the knockout party of the year!

The event is part of the Beethoven and Schumann Festival and kicks-off at 9:30 p.m. with LiVE 88.5’s DJ Noah spinning in the NAC Main Foyer. A roster of Ottawa’s best graffiti artists will paint the walls of the NAC with colourful works inspired by The Kiss, the NAC-commissioned art from internationally renowned Canadian artist Anita Kunz, whose work has graced the covers of The New Yorker and Rolling Stone. Attendees are invited to take a crash course in graffiti with the crew from House of PainT and other local artists who will be onsite to help every “would be artist” show-off their talent on our interactive mural. The party is sure to reach new heights when Canada’s turntable champion and crowd favourite Skratch Bastid creates his own remixes and blends of classical music legends Beethoven and Schumann.

“DJ Skratch Bastid is brilliant and electric, and is known for his expressive execution, coaxing mash-ups and collaborations, with the likes of the Afiara Quartet, Buck 65 and Shad. He is truly innovative in his ability to disrupt and merge genres. I am thrilled to include him among the phenomenal group of soloists who will perform during our 10 day Festival,” says Music Director, Alexander Shelley.

Over the past 15 years, Canada’s own Skratch Bastid has been spreading his skills and name around the world. At the rate of over 150 shows a year over the last decade, he has been increasingly heralded for his comfort and versatility in different styles – hip hop, funk, disco, club, rock and just about anything that makes people dance- the Bastid has rocked dance floors in Asia, Europe, Down Under and everywhere in between. With an incomparable hold in his country where he has become a staple of Canadian DJ history, he now celebrates his culture and community in his home base of Toronto and throughout Canada with the annual Bastid’s BBQ held every summer.

You won’t want to miss this party or the chance to devour delicious food samples, and see a Skratch Bastid mash-up you never thought possible! A Night of Classical Collisions at the NAC! Only $10 at the door.
