December 30, 2015 – OTTAWA (Canada) – “What a wealth of stories he has to offer! With visual images, music and songs he is a true artist...give the man a standing ovation.” – Australian Stage

Aboriginal. Actor. Addict. Residential School Survivor. Cat Burglar. Jack Charles is an Australian tribal Elder and a living legend.

ILBIJERRI Theatre, Australia’s leading and longest running Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Theatre Company, opens Jack Charles’ 2016 Canadian tour at the National Arts Centre, followed by performances at the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival in Vancouver, BC (January 21-23) and the High Performance Rodeo in Calgary, AB (January 28-30).

This highly entertaining and autobiographical presentation, which includes a three-piece band, runs the gamut of a life lived to its utmost, spanning Charles’ career as an actor/musician, a lifetime of political activism, and a terrifying descent into heroin addiction and petty crime. His experience as a stolen child echoes the plight of Canada’s own Indigenous people – and his heart-warming presence, generous spirit and unswerving optimism make his journey one of resilience and reconnection. Jack Charles is a theatrical marvel.

Jack Charles V The Crown runs for six performances in the NAC Studio, limited tickets are available. Contains strong language and mature themes.

“Steeped in decades of our history (social, political, theatrical), surprisingly upbeat… a warm-hearted, very entertaining evening.” – Sydney Morning Herald

The creative team includes Director Rachael Maza; Musical Director Nigel Maclean; Set and Costume Designer Emily Barrie; Lighting Designer Danny Pettingill; Audio Visual Designer Peter Worland; Production Manager John Byrne; Audio/AV Engineer Gary Dryza; Stage/Company Manager Jessica Keepence.
