Là où j'habite

LÀ OÙ J’HABITE
Capturing the stars

An NAC French Theatre presentation
December 5 & 6 at 9:30 & 11 a.m. in the NAC Studio
Recommended for ages 2 to 5
Note: Both performances will be in French.

Téoù (“Where-Are-You”) and Téqui (“Who-Are-You”) are bursting with a hundred questions bigger than a thousand houses. Why are we here, in this place, together? Who are we really? And if I weren’t Téoù, would you still be Téqui? In Là où j’habite (Where I Live), the creators explore the notion of our surroundings, from familiar places to imaginary ones. Through song, dance and play, they venture joyously out of their shell to investigate the houses across the street, the village beyond the woods, and even the Milky Way! An inventive and delightful way to consider our connection to each other and to the world while exploring an infinite galaxy.

For over 25 years, Des mots d’la dynamite has been creating intelligent, appealing children’s shows with a touch of zany humour. Like their previous production Le spectacle de l’arbre (Scenes from a Tree), presented at the NAC in 2011, Là où j’habite (Where I Live) is sure to amaze, astonish and amuse young theatre-goers as they watch poetry and magic taking shape before their very eyes …

We find that the poetry of everyday life is connected to the great existential questions,
and, just like toddlers, we like to touch and experience the world in a highly sensory way!

Toddlers and play

As we developed Là où j’habite, we had the opportunity to work with toddlers several times during the creative process. These nursery-school encounters, which included games and short presentations, reminded me of the Zen tales where the monk meets the master. Not to imply that our young participants were all prodigies, but I honestly feel that they taught us a lot about play, and constantly called us back to the very essence of our craft—namely, a convergence of human beings, a space, and a subject. Là où j’habite is about how we experience the adventure of coexistence first and foremost through our bodies.
