  Sep 21, 2021 - 6 PM EDT   1 hour with no intermission.

In celebration of International Week of the Deaf, the NAC is proud to present the world premiere of It’s Our Time, a documentary short from Up Sky Down Films in St. John’s NL, co-produced with the NAC. Created in the spring and summer of 2021, It’s Our Time celebrates the first-ever collaboration between the Shallaway Youth Choir and the NL Deaf Choir as they share and experience new possibilities for musical expression.

The film premiere will be followed by a panel discussion with members of the deaf choir community hosted by Shallaway’s Artistic Director Kellie Walsh.

This event will be presented in English and American Sign Language, with French subtitles for the film presentation. Audience members are welcome to pose questions to the panel in English or French.

The Music Alive Program is made possible thanks to the leadership support of National Partner, The Azrieli Foundation, and Major Supporters, The Slaight Family Foundation and TD Bank Group. Thank you also to the John and Judy Bragg Foundation, Grant and Alice Burton, VIA Rail, Canada Life, A Donor-Advised Fund at the Community Foundation of Ottawa , Friends of the NAC Orchestra, Donors to the NAC Foundation's Future Fund, The Janice and Earle O’Born Fund for Artistic Excellence, and the donors and sponsors of the NAC’s National Youth and Education Trust, the primary resource for youth and education funding at the National Arts Centre.
