This year’s NAC Orchestra Bursary Competition has all taken place online, due to COVID-19 restrictions. Please join us for our first ever virtual Awards Ceremony!

Eight musicians will have been selected from the preliminary round of virtual auditions, which consist of submitted videos reviewed by the NAC Orchestra Bursary Competition jury. These eight move on to the final round, for which they will submit a second performance video. From May 21st to May 28th, participants’ videos will be viewable on the NAC Music Education & Training Facebook page as we prepare for the Awards Ceremony on May 29th.

Thanks to the generosity of the members of the NAC Orchestra, additional organizations and individuals, the following prizes will be awarded to the finalists during our virtual ceremony on May 29th:

The NAC Orchestra Bursary,

The Crabtree Foundation Award,

The Friends of the NAC Orchestra Award,

The NAC Orchestra Vic Pomer Award,

The Sturdevant Prize for Orchestral Excerpts

The Friends of the NAC Orchestra Evelyn Greenberg Award, and

The Piccolo Prix.

ABOUT THE NAC ORCHESTRA BURSARY

The first NAC Orchestra Bursary Competition was in 1981. The Bursary provides recognition and financial support to help further the development of young Canadian orchestral musicians who have connections to the National Capital Region. In the first year, one prize of $1,000 – the NAC Orchestra Bursary – was awarded. In subsequent years, thanks to the growth of the Fund as well as the generosity of private organizations and individuals, prizes now total more than $21,000.
