Child’s-Eye Playwright
They say that every season, a play by Suzanne Lebeau is presented somewhere in the world. This great playwright originally wanted to be an actress; but in 1975, with Gervais Gaudreault, she co-founded Le Carrousel young people’s theatre and launched her prolific writing career—more than 24 plays for young audiences, translated into more than two dozen languages! Of special interest is Une lune entre deux maisons (A Moon Between Two Houses, 1979), the first Canadian play written especially for young children. Suzanne Lebeau’s incisive pen dares to tackle difficult subjects, but always with the necessary sensitivity to appeal to the heart of a child.
