Josh Murphy

Josh Murphy is a dance artist, educator and burlesque/drag performer based in St. John’s, NL/Ktaqmkuk. Murphy trained at York University earning his BFA in 2017. Recent credits include headlining for Frostease Burlesque in Anchorage, Alaska, participating in Hold Fast Contemporary Arts Festival 2022 as a Featured Artist, and dancing with Opera On The Avalon for "The Rock Performs" 2022.” In 2018 he received the Roberta Thomas Legacy Award wherein he researched the intersections of contemporary dance and burlesque/ cabaret style performance. Murphy is currently touring and working on “Ruralesque” with Candice Pike and Hilary Knee, discovering where rural Newfoundland aesthetics meet contemporary dance and burlesque.
