Jing Yang

Praised by New York Magazine as “...so young but so accomplished...”, Chinese-born pianist Dr. Jing Yang has been recognized as a soloist, chamber musician and ensemble player by audiences worldwide. As a recitalist she has given solo recitals in many countries, including the US, China, Germany, Russia, France, Spain, Japan, and Taiwan. After her New York City debut at Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall in 2006, Dr.Yang was invited to give a solo recital tour in Europe with stops in Valladolid and Madrid, Spain and Paris, France. In 2009 she had her debut recital in Berlin, which was hailed as a great success. In her homeland China Dr.Yang was invited to perform at the Polish Embassy in Beijing for the 150th Anniversary of Chopin’s Death, and a solo recital in the Russian Embassy. She also gave a four recital series at Nanjing Concert Hall, as well as solo recitals in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang, Hangzhou, and other major cities. In 2010 she was invited as both a piano recitalist and lecturer to the Hangzhou Normal University and Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. In the summer of 2011 Jing gave two recitals on Wall Street New York, as part of Maiden Lane Concert Series organized by The Juilliard School and New York Times. She has also appeared as a soloist with the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Symphony in Japan, Youth Symphony Orchestra in Chicago Symphony Orchestra Hall, and New Juilliard Ensemble in Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center. Jing appeared as piano soloist in the open ceremony of Youth Olympic Game 2014, representing America continent. 

As a chamber musician Dr.Yang has performed extensively with vocalists, strings, woodwinds, and brass instruments. With soprano Nina Berman she has given many recitals in NYC venues including Carnegie Hall and Yamaha Studio. As a guest lecturer at Rutgers University in 2009 Jing gave a lecture and a recital in chamber music featuring Erhu, a traditional Chinese instrument, and piano. Besides classical repertoires, Dr. Yang has also been a frequent advocate of new music, working collaboratively with composers from the United States, Germany, and her homeland China.

As a winner of multiple international piano competitions, Dr. Yang has won first prize at the Munz Piano Competition in NYC, second prize at the Eastman International Piano Competition, and third prize in both the Beijing Piano Competition for Young Artists and the Chopin International Piano Competition in Taipei. She won the special prize in the St. Petersburg International Piano Competition, and fourth prize in the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition for Young Musicians. In 2005 she recorded demo recordings for the National Piano Grading Examination hosted by Zhou Guangren in China.

Dr. Yang was born in China and began her piano study at age of five. She studied in the Music School Attached to Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing with a first prize scholarship and holds a bachelor's degree from Manhattan School of Music as well as a doctoral degree of musical arts.  She received a master's degree at The Juilliard School. Ms. Yang has performed in master classes with a number of distinguished pianists, including Garrick Ohlsson, Lazar Berman, Andrej Jasinski, André-Michel Schub, Jerome Lowenthal, Alexander Braginsky, and Shai Wosner.
