Janis Mayers is an afro-Indigenous and European settler Toronto born theatre artist. A graduate of Seneca College’s corporate media production program she has worked behind the scenes in live event production transitioning to theatre in 2018 performing in Dérives – Noémie LaFrance at the Bentway and co-creating/ performing in The Solitudes produced by Aluna Theatre. Janis produced a short documentary A Pile of Dirt that premiered at the Regent Park Film Festival. She began training with Superior Description in 2022, most recent projects have been audio describing for the Indigenous Curatorial Collective short film festival, Thompson Highway’s The Cave, Yolanda Bonnell’s My Sister’s Rage, Three Fingers Back by Donna Michelle St Bernard, Age is a Feeling by Hailey McGee and Canoe an Unsettled scores production, All Stars 360 by Onyx productions and the 2024 Dora awards.
