Haley McGee is an internationally acclaimed playwright and actor. She has toured her award-winning solo OH MY IRMA to Edinburgh, London, Brighton, Amsterdam, New York, Berlin, Kiel (Germany), Tampere (Finland), Varna (Bulgaria), Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), Peja (Kosovo), Victoria and Edmonton (Canada). OH MY IRMA debuted in Toronto at Theatre Passe Muraille and has been translated into French, German and Bulgarian. It was translated into French (French title: Ma Irma) by Marie-Claude Marcotte, who will perform the show at Zones Théâtrales 2017. Haley’s second solo, I’m Doing This for You, premiered in 2015, playing in Halifax (Canada), Berlin (Germany) and Brighton (UK), followed by a sold-out run in Toronto. I’m Doing This for You was developed in residence at the Battersea Arts Centre (London, UK) and directed by Mitchell Cushman.
As an actor, her credits include Deborah Pearson’s Made Visible (The Yard Theatre, London), Stan Douglas’ live film noir Helen Lawrence (Brooklyn Academy of Music, deSingel Antwerp, Edinburgh International Festival, Munich Kammerspiel, Canadian Stage, Vancouver Arts Club), premieres of Hannah Moscovitch’s Infinity (Volcano/Tarragon), George F. Walker’s Dead Metaphor (Mirvish Productions/Canadian Rep Theatre) and Moss Park (Theatre Passe Muraille/Green Thumb Theatre), The Other Place (Canadian Stage), The Story (Theatre Columbus; Dora nomination), and the TV series Murdoch Mysteries (Shaftesbury/CBC).
Haley devised and performed in the sold-out The Public Servant with Jennifer Brewin, Sarah McVie and Amy Rutherford, commissioned by Theatre Columbus (GCTC/Magnetic North/Common Boots Theatre). Theatre Columbus commissioned and produced her play Weather the Weather, an outdoor winter walk-about show at the Evergreen Brick Works in Toronto.
As a writer, Haley has developed projects at Playwrights Workshop Montreal’s Glassco Translation Residency, the Battersea Arts Centre, the National Theatre School of Canada, the Banff Playwrights Colony, the Stratford Festival Writers’ Retreat and the Tarragon Theatre Playwrights Unit. Haley was a member of The Second City Conservatory and holds a BFA in acting from Ryerson University.
